anyone else like these ? picked it up last night , its one of the bigger older ones 23" high guessing its 1960's ish but cant find much about em online

might give him a carefull tidy up on the lettering but i think a repaint would ruin it

If you want "him" to retain value don't touch the lettering, Leave "as is "

hmm yeah i see what youre saying , being a painter im having to fight myself to not repaint the whole thing , but theyre only original once

i reckon i could tickle the letters so no one would know ..its a keeper anyway

Keep it original - just like enamel signs, most of them look awful but lose their value once "restored".

His name is "Bibendum" and he used to be highly prized by self employed truckers. Prices got to be ridiculous, but new(er) MOT rules on vehicle mascots all but banned their use. The first ones to go under the new legislation were the Pouncing Pussies on Jags while Rolls Royce added a retraction facility to the Spirit of Extacy to keep on using them. As an aside: Even the retractible ones are unlawful to have fitted on importation (but not in use) to Switzerland, so the factory just pops it inside the glove compartment 'for security' so that the owner can fit it him/her self. Sometimes the showroom does it prior to local delivery/collection.

I dont have power in my garage so first job each night is to fumble around finding the extension lead and drag it out to plug it in at the kitchen. Fumbling around and seeing him there would probably give me a heart attack, but i think its pretty cool all the same.

Get a cheap(ish) solar powered light, preferably with PIR. Put the solar panel outside and lamp inside. Just walk in to instant light!

Use black stickyback plastic if you must want to do something about the lettering,at least this way it can be peeled off.

Whats the name of that stuff you used in the 70#s to cover your kitchen surfaces and tables?
