Had to purchase another car rather sharpish after my old fiesta failed its MOT by smoking out the garage and the mechanics there! (Its a little bit of a oil burner) Anyways, I only need a cheap car to get me to my job and for weekend outings. My previous car was a Volvo 740, and I remembered how good that car was, so I bought another one, except this is a S40 with 116k with 13 stamps in the book. Needs a few bits (wheel bearing, tyre, service) but it drives very well, and everything works!

thought the S40 was a focus floor plan when ford owned Volvo not as good as a old 240 740 940

Yeah, the volvos of this age onwards are ford builds and do share parts from focus and possibly other models.. Most definately not of the same solid quality of the real swedish volvos, 240 740 760 etc. The good old 2.0 - 2.3 4 cylinder redblocks were the best engines they may of ever made! (In the car industry)

I sadly had to sell my old 740 when my renewals and every other insurance quote was no less than £2000 (originally was £1600) It only had 43,000 miles on it, but sold it to a collector who still has it to this day. Selling that car was a decision I regret nowadays.

I had a V40 and that was based on a Mitsubishi Carisma AFAIK. The 740/940 are the best ones.

I've got a '01 V70 T5 and love it. I like cars with a bit of tech (DTSC) but not too much (automatic handbrakes, windscreens, lights blah de blah). Every time I drive it, I think of the BTCC 850Rs...

We had a 740GLE for a while which was fun and was quickly nicknamed the Abba Wagon.

The abba wagon? I do miss my 740 saloon, just seeing the above pictures is an instant reminder of how tough they were built, seeing those rugged lines of the bodywork!

Our V40 T4 has been relegated to the drive for a couple of years in the hope I will get round to putting it back on the road, my missus had loads of fun with boy racers over the years with it!

I and the wife both have diesel 940s, reliable, a pleasure to work on and you can pick them up well cheap, I'd like a V70 tdi but with the 940 I can fix them. OK they are tanks and not sports cars but I get enough speeding tickets anyway.
