New scam version?

This looks like a new type of scam, no clicky email addresses or websites, but a telephone number. I have never ever dealt with the Hong Kong and Shanghai bank so it can't be genuine. That and the unique email address it was sent to.

Nothing else in the text seems to lead anywhere so I am a bit baffled; unless you end up talking to the "Visa" or "bank security" scammers on those numbers?

+44 is not even China prefix, I think is like Lebanon or something like that , a middle east country anyway.
We have a Battlefield 4 WhatsApp group because we have a platoon ...

I think it may be a scam.

I forwarded it to 7726, but whether anything ever happens I don’t know.

If I could find some way to disguise my number I’d have messaged back, to see how long I could play the scammer along. A request for money would invariably have followed.

I got one last week on my works phone. It started with 'Hi mom'.
Apparently I've had a sex change without knowing about it.

if it was me and I didnt deal with the bank I'd have ignored it after seeing the email header. it may be a scam, but if you ignore it, I dont think much will happen and you can worry about bigger issues.

0330 is "local rate" but I am astonished that the scammers are still able to use it.

I was reading recently about chat bots being used to keep scammers occupied...I guess eventually they'll be able to call them back and just string them along for hours at a time hopefully in the not too distant future!

Less than £5 a month.
You get the number then all the calls to that number get diverted to whatever number you choose..

You don't own the 0330 (or whatever) number and it's not registered to you as a land line or anything, so divert it to a payg mobile and you are good to go..
There are also various people advertising these numbers (at a higher price) but they accept bitcoin and don't ask any questions..

When they call me with the Amazon or Visa scam I generally keep them on as long as I can. Trouble is, it can be difficult not to laugh after a while. They rely on myths about call cost to "press One" and let rip, which is why scammers use these automated systems. If someone hasn't just dumped the call, they are probably a victim in the making.

Have you ever seen Scam Interceptors on BBC1 ? The criminals follow a very well rehearsed script and they are very clever the way that they manipulate vulnerable people. It begs the question that being so clever, why don't they put it into something honest?

The Facebook friends cloned account is another one that I pursue as you have seen here before. I get the real account ID to report.

I get about 1 every day, they ring once, I don’t answer, been going on for several years. I block each one, even though they’re probably fake generated numbers.

I have, literally, hundreds in my missed calls log.
