i really like my movano. is your the 100hp 5 speed or the 125 6 speed?
that looks a good start with all that kit ready installed. carpeted roof liner is a nice touch.
can you fit a tow bar with the wheel chair ramp on the back?
Nice clean roof lining, if your thinking of using it during the winter months you might want to see if there is any insulation under the linning before you get to far into kitting it out, cold van in winter isnt funny even though there's a diesel heater, just a thought .
@Kayos It was a complete fluke, we only went to Merthyr Motor Auctions to have a look see what was there and the sort of prices they were fetching and came home with it
@gaz_moose its the 100bhp 5sp, would have liked the 125bhp 6 sp but can't have everything. Tow bar, am not sure, its someting to investigate, I think they attach to the chassis rails, if needs be will take the ramp out and cut out the floor from a van and weld it in
@jordhandson I'm guessing no insulation, will be taking the roof lining out and stuffing its cavities with insulation, don't want to be cold
Thw other challenge was insurance, non of the usual suspects would give me a reasonable quote as they all classed it as 'modified'. Admiral even wanted an extra £60 as it is parked in secure storage with on site security, full CCTV etc
Spoke to Lancaster and had a tidy quote, really helpful guy on the phone as well who seemed to know his beans so they got my business
ive had both the 5 and the 6 speed and the 5 speed box is nicer. the 6 always feels like your in the wrong gear. the 6th only drops the revs by about 500RPM when cruising so you could just go up a tyre size to 235's which are cheap enough. mine were all recovery trucks though so well up near the top of the weight limit.
has your got air rear suspension or is it on leaf springs? has it just a single spring each side or an additional helper spring? movano recovery trucks are always on their **** with just the normal single springs, which is something to consider if your planning on making it heavy.
rear brakes are usually rubbish so its worth cleaning up the handbrake mechanisms and coating the springs as they like to rust.
the later ones have really handy pockets above the front sun visors if you see one being broken for parts.
It was more the extra bhp rather than the 6 speed box
Not been under the rear yet apart from checking for corrosion
Next week or 2 will get it back home and give it a ful going over, oils, filters, strip and check brakes etc to ensure its all good before starting on the interior
Nice tip about the later ones, will add it to the shopping list
