Wasn't it the H1 that was banned in America? I know one was because so many people were killed riding one in the first fortnight of it's release. Something to do with the hinged middle and the way nearly all the power came in at once at xxx revs.

I remember that in Amarica they nicknamed the H2 750 the "purple people eater".

I don't think any bike was banned here.

The H1 (500) and H2 (750) did become uninsurable for one or two of the major insurance comanies for some people (I think under 25). I think the only other bikes with the same distinction were the Turbo GPz's. I had some problems insuring my GPz550 as many just grouped all GPz's as turbos.

The 500 was more radically ported than the 750, so it had a sharper and higher peak int he RPMs.

Back OT: The CX500 looks unique; have not seen them here.

I have had 4 or 5 maggots, including Customs and Silverwings, great bikes just remember to do three things when you have the engine out, change the timing chains and tensioners, change the waterpump gasket and make damn sure the alterator is a good one or the engine will be out again. I am still into bikes and have a Honda 750 Africa Twin (reminds me of the CX except more powerful and comfortable) and a Honda 650 FMX as a plaything but if another CX custom or Turbo came up at the right money, I might be tempted, very tempted

and change the ceramic impeller seal and dont silicone the big green gasket

that cafe racer looks cool! cx's only 'handle' on avon roadrunners though, or a venom for the front

everyone slagged them, but i thought they were great bikes, i'll have another someday

Tough things. I had a dog-rough Custom, it survived the coolant being froze solid, and being rammed by a Peugeot. Pug left bits & plastic all over the road, me and the CX just got up and blatted on. Handling in the wet was not nice though.

That's a neat conversion, the only customising I managed on mine was a Dunstall 2-1 exhaust!
