Recently upgraded to a new for me lathe, a Staral 190. It has a 14 inch swing and 1000mm length.
As a novice lathe user i have some of questions:
- I'm wondering what the process is for simple work, for example boring out a spur gear from 25mm to 50mm, would you use one boring bar for the entire process or would one use a boring bar with a certain insert for removing the bulk of the material and then another type of insert to get to final dimension and good surface finish?
- What's a normal depth of cut for a machine like this?
- I've installed a DRO and when taking heavier cuts (2mm depth of cut) the cross slide moves about 0,02 to 0,05 mm. Is this normal?
Thanks.
