New mig welder

Hi guys I'm looking for a new mig welder. I'm a little lost, as I am from the states and I would buy a miller but they are not that easy to find in Ireland. I have €1400 to spend and I only have single phase available in my shed. I would like some where around 250amps or more. Does any one have suggestions on what welder to buy?

Welcome to the forum, have you viewed the stock of Weldequip..link at top of page.
Many members have bought their machines from him and he tends to stick to decent quality stuff, am pretty sure he can arrange courier delivery to Ireland as well.

The Portamig is built the 'old fashioned' way..a heavy transformer and minimal electronic wizardy, they are heavy, robust and really nice to use...however if you need to move it around any way other than on its wheels you will struggle, the porta part of the name must mean something other than portable.

The others I am sure are good machines also but having never used one, so I am unable to judge or comment between the brands.

There is a Miller agent in Dublin but not too sure what you'd get for the €1400 though. There's a Co in Carlow that sells both INE and Thermal Arc machines and either of those would be good.

The only reason I would advise to buy in Ire is the shipping back and forth in case of a breakdown etc (nothing against the portamig or w/equip)

As previous posts have said the portamig is a fine machine.
