New MIG welder buying advice needed.

I'm considering buying a new MIG welder in the near future. I currently have a SIP topmig 170 turbo.

I'm looking for advice on what makes to consider. I have seen a couple of Sealey welders that look OK. What are people's opinions on these?

I'm looking for something about the 170 amp mark. With a Euro torch. On wheels and capable of carrying an industrial bottle (I have an account with BOC)

Budget? As little as possible! Although I don't have a fixed amount in mind yet.

I don't mind going secondhand if I get a better machine for my money

I am biased because I own one..Portamig..they do a 185 amp, excellent machine.. you get what you pay for.

Thanks. Just been looking at their site. The 185 one at £579 inc VAT looks good value. I should start saving!

Edit: This was in response to Engineers post which implied a machine he linked to was identical to one Weldequip sells but isn't.

And half the warranty 1 year against 2 for a Portamig. If it came down to the two I would rather spend £100 more for the Portamig. I think I have decided it's the one to go for. Do they come up for sale secondhand?

Every now and again we get one posted in the for sale section, sometimes bought for a project then unused. Keep your eyes open.

There can be a 4 week waiting list for them as well, although if you give Steve a ring at Weldequip, he will give you some ides what it is at present.
