Hi all
Been getting more and more frustrated with my Clarke 165E for a while, sometimes it will weld just find, then in the middle of a bead just start spluttering and spitting. I could spend a lot of time sorting it, but its at the point I'd rather just buy something thats going to work 1st time.
It will be used for a variety of jobs, from 1mm ish Land Rover bulkheads, up to fabrication in 5/6mm steel. My old 150A Clarke coped, this current one is better, so I'm really looking somewhere around 160-180A top end power. I am currently still on a 13A plug, but will be having a 16A supply put in soon. 30A or less bottom end.
My budget is around the £500ish mark. Could go more, but don't want to splash more than needs be on something that old gets intermittant use.
My big choice seems to be whether to go for transformer based or inverter based. I'm leaning towards transformer based as I have a general distrust of complicated electronics, though I will admit the portability of an inverter MIG would be nice. Just not sure how well it would stand up to bouncing round in the back of the Landy.
I'll admit I'm a little out of the circle now when it comes to welders, so unsure whats on offer these days. Any help/advice would be very gratefully recieved.
Cheers
Andrew
