As I don't have the knowledge or time to repair old English machinery I'm looking at buying a brand new floor standing pillar drill with a relatively small budget of £1000, max.
Should I be looking any further than Axminster? I know I'll be limited to re-badged Asian import machines, but Axminster's aftersales support gives me peace of mind. I also have a horizontal bandsaw of theirs that has served me really well.
I'm once bitten twice shy when it comes to old machinery as I once bought an Elliot Progress 2a with the romantic idea that old English machinery lasts forever - obviously my untrained eye didn't spot the signs of abuse by a previous owner. I think for me, buying a lesser spec new machine is the best economy.
