has anyone got a wiring diagram and legend for a mid 1980's arcos/Lincoln 180c mig welder please,ive searched the forum and the ones that have been posted are too small to read and very old posts.

Well I've found a circuit diagram for my mig,and it turns out that the low voltage supply transformer has died.this transformer I think supplies the necessary voltage to drive the circuit board for spot and stitch welding,what I don't understand is why is the wire feed control working if the supply transformer is dead I can't figure out where it's getting its power from to run the wire feed circuit.
The previous owner had an electrician wire in a new main contactor,bit the only way I can get the set to work is to manually operate the main contactor.so I'm thinking about making a new circuit with a 24v transformer and a heavy duty 24v relay to operate the main contactor(switching 240v) and getting a 24v solenoid gas valve as I don't need stitch or spot welding.
I've not got a lot of money to throw at this and any suggestions would be welcome .

What I should have said is the new main contactor is or has a 240v energising coil which is not connected to anything so as I press my torch trigger is does nothing,so I need to make a new circuit and don't fancy running 240 v through my torch trigger,hence the 24v relay idea.so my next question is what amperage relay would I need to engerize the main contactor using 24v from torch switch to relay24v to switch 240 v to the main contactor coil.

It's a bit confusing without reference to the machine. But the transformer is 12 and 42v I'm on the phone at the moment so it's hard to cross reference. But is the 12 or 42 dead. It sounds like the 12 is dead and the 42 powering the motor

Hi,both out puts are dead,I've tested the the input 240v that's fine but no out put at all from the transformer. Even disconnected the transformer and manually depressed the main contactor and the wire feed works and the main transformer energises,I did this and touched the contact tip from the touch on to the earth clamp and it arced as you would expect,also tried using the voltage switch on the front of the set and can select higher out puts/amps.
I've removed the transformer now and still get the same results.

The contactor coil draws a tiny amount, normally less than an amp so your relay needn't be very big. Try not to go too powerful as the contacts in a torch won't take much in the way of amps either.

A new auxiliary transformer shouldn't cost much though? About £50 + VAT.
