Good afternoon,
I am currently working as a 360/180 excavator operator but looking at a change in career. I was brought up and worked alot on farms when I was younger and spent many many weeks in the workshop over the winter months doing maintenance, welding, cutting, drilling etc and I loved it. I did mainly MIG but also some MMA welding.
I'm now 35, and I'm thinking about a career in welding and fabrication.
My question is, do you need any sort of degree or mainstream qualification? Or is just being a good welder enough to gain work?
I have already talked to a couple of training companies about assessment and certification to help me but if companies are looking for people with "proper" qualifications then is it really worth spending the money to gain certification if I don't have the further education background?
Thanks, Shaun
