Hi, I've joined your group as I'm struggling with several cheap welders and I'm not particularly competent at welding. I restore cars and bikes as a hobby but not as a business and occasionally need to weld.
After struggling and cursing with my own Sip 105 turbo a friend has lent me a 1980's Sip 120 and another Sip 170 dual purpose welder which I think has a Euro torch? So far non of them work well to me so all need work. I've read all the posts about the crap wire feeding and spent many hours trying to work out how to wire in a separate power supply and relay to my 105. I've finally done the mod plus fitted a curtain metal liner as suggested. Sadly its still terrible with the motor juddering at slow speeds are the arc flashing on off on off all the time. My auto mask must sense the flashing and switch on and off too so I can rarely even see the pool so I often miss the area I'm trying to weld. I've burnt big holes all over the motorbike fram I'm trying to weld! I even bought a big bottle of pub supply welding gas co2 and have probably used most of it pratting about with machines. Boy I'm struggling and I'm peed off I've spent time and money modifying the Sip105!
The other 2 machines have never been used in years but my friend has lent me them for me to recommission them. The 80's red Sip 120 wire feed has a big motor but the potentiometer does not work so the wire feed runs too fast. The Sip 170 looks a better machine but needs a new shroud and earth clamp on order. I'll post some help messages as I get on with the borrowed machines but have given up with my 105. The motor just won't run consistently at slow speeds at around 3 to 4 v? Help!
