myford i paid 160for plus 35 for motor and a stand 25 make me an offer , dont have to have stand ? as for make its a edgwick with removeable slide near chucl so can fit big stuff on

I should imagine the two levers on the headstock will be the speeds of the chuck and the one by the chuck itself will engage drive to that.
Looks like it has a powered saddle and screw cutting attachment. So the levers in the bottom left corner will be feeds and speeds for that.
The lever on the left of the saddle will engage the powered drive. If I remember rightly middle is neutral, down is forwards and (if it's got it) up is back.
The big red lever in the middle of the photo operates the trolley jack, if you move it backwards and forwards the other end goes up.

the small top lever by gearlever says metric stop and whitworth on it then the others have a b c d on them etc , is there a locking system so i can unscrew chuck?

The saddle looks similar to my atlas.
The lever engages the half-nut for power feed.
The knob in the middle is pulled out to engage the power cross-feed.
Looks like a nice lathe.
Can't help much on the other end. mine is the old style, you oped door and swap gears for different thread/feed rates.

Headstock -
Big lever = hi & low range (backgear)
small = speeds
DON'T move these levers when clutch (red knob) is engaged, (you will smash gears)
The brass plate on the feed box will tell you which combination of levers will give a particular feed or thread.
There will be one lever for fwd/rev, one metric/english (whit) & maybe one to engage the leadscrew or a dog clutch on the leadscrew itself.
On the saddle the round knob (pull & push) is to select power sliding (along) or facing (across).
Normally there are also 2 levers
1 to engage nut & only used for screw-cutting & 1 for power feed.
To remove chuck, switch off motor, select slowest speed, engage clutch open chuck jaws to max, try a GENTLE knock with soft hammer (anti clockwise). if still tight, use wood thro jaws to act as lever.
When removing chucks or face plates, put a plank (small) on the bed for the chuck to drop onto.
Nice solid old machine, should do a lot of work for you.

thanks for help,
the lever on saddle moves down for power sliding and up for cross feed middle is nutrual,
the big clutch type lever seem to make it go faster or slower not actually stop chuck,
im slowly working out the abcd levers although i stopped the power sliding thread spinning earlierand took a littlw while to get it to go again lol
does anyone know if its a mk1 as pics on lathe site are of a mk2 and i want to order the instruction manual he has on there?

myford now in for sale section with loads of pics,
i will take some pics tomorrow at work , also the spare faceplate and 4 jaw chuck dont fit as they are threaded on and lathe has 3 nuts and bolts to hold chuck on so i gonna need to make an adaptor to bolt on with the same thread as them hopefully
have ordered a manual off lathe tony...its a mk1

i took chuck off by unbolting it today and the spindle is solid cant see any joins becuase i thought it would be threaded but cant see it is , i have also put it in lowest gear as suggested and used soft hammer and a piece of wood to protect and a big hammer lol nothing seems to move
