My foray into welding has started due to my much loved BMW E39 rotting away.
What started as rusty rear arches has turned into much more....as shown below. I haven't looked at the otherside in as much detail yet!
I was going to pay a mate to sort out the arches for me, but having found this little delight i am going to have a go myself. The bill would be more than the car cost me. He's happy to give me pointers though and his work is incredible!
Original plan was to borrow my Dads MIG and have a practice but at the weekend i acquired a Sealey Mightymig 130xt costing a nice round £0. It has had a bit of a beating in its life but the important thing, the fan spins, the wire feed works and it makes a spark!
I have already removed the battered/broken torch and ordered a euro conversion kit. Not strictly necessary but i have read lots about them being a lot nicer to use, plus the old one was in a bad way (think im making excuses now!) I will also be fitting a panel mounted Dinse socket for the new return lead.
I am currently waiting for delivery of my new torch so i can complete the conversion. I have made a new +ve lead for the euro connection (i'm an electrician so have a heap of 16mm^2 tri-rated cable and crimps - FREE) I have also added two wires to the PCB in preparation for the gas solenoid.
