After losing my medical cert and having to give up flying I got quite miserable. I happened to turn up at the airport a few weeks ago to ask about the cost of hiring a small flight simulator to keep my hand in. This week I started teaching people to fly the Boeing 747 at the same place because they were short of instructors and had been looking for someone and i fitted the requirements perfectly.

Karma.....I must have done something good along the way.

Good news, no chance of falling out the sky

(I worked for a small airplane Co as a teen, the owner had his taken off him after he had to have a pacemaker fitted, didnt stop him from flying. I got the sack in the end as I wouldn't go airfeild hopping on a weekend with them)

That's great news Rob.

I had a go in a couple of commercial simulators it was one of the best days out I've had. They were older types but still great fun.

If any of the newbies are Jet 2 pilots and doing the Newcastle to Alicante this June then make sure they don't cheat their final exam.

Well............. I've had my first week as a Sim instructor. I got paired up with a Jet 2 student, let's call him "Chris B", and we ran through the course so I could do one as a victim before running a real live one on my own. Great fun to get back to the Sim without the stress of having to be at risk of losing your job every time you pressed a button.

We both got 97% in the exam so we both passed (we even got different questions wrong. Amazing! )

Next week we have "Nikki" and Elena" sitting in to help us with the 'Pilot Incapacitation' drills whereby they have to strap us into our seats and pretend we are dead. Lots of potential for fun.

Me on the right with the beardy. That's the biggest smile I've had since losing my medical certificate 2 years ago.

£300 per hour, including an instructor. Not much more expensive than hiring a 4-seater aeroplane.
