Hi,
I stumbled on this site after, guess what? Having wire-feed problems with my SIP...
After a good browse around I figured I'm less likely to have a bunch of hairy blokes laugh at the girlie's pathetic attempts to stick bits of metal together than other places, so thought I'd register and say "Hi"
I figured I'd have a go at this 'ere welding lark after a garage relieved me of £200 in exchange for having trained pigeons, fed an iron-rich diet, walk around bits of metal. I looked at the plates stuck over the rust, the invoice, and the price of MIG sets and figured I'd have a go myself.
I like my classic Vauxhalls (someone has to...) and own a brace of HC Vivas, one '71 and one '79. As is fairly widely known, Vauxhalls of this period tended to dissolve fairly rapidly so an ability to stick bits of steel together is fairly useful.
I'm also fairly experienced in electronics; when I'm not under a Viva I'm probably inside bits of vintage radio or TV gear. So my mind is already pondering further modifications to the SIP. I've bought the thing now, can't afford a better one, so I might as well see if I can improve this thing a bit. I doubt I could make it any worse!
So, after I've tried a few ideas out, I'll share anything which works.
OK... well... that's something of an introduction
