new flux core wire seems different ?

helo everybody I have practicing welding on thin metal 0.8mm with a sealey mighty mig 100 I was starting to get the hang of it howether I ran out of wire and bought some cheap flux core wire of ebay that was the same size as the original wire howether it welded realy bad the welds came out black and porus and I could easily snap my welded metal apart so I bougtht some sealey wire which was the same as the original wire this was a lot better howether the welds still have a black coating on them and it seems like I cant get the same weld standard the old wire used to produce a light brown dust that brushed easy im also using a an extension leed so could this lower the voltage of my welder

Bit of a hit and miss with the cheap flux wire, you might get a good roll or a horrible one, quality control just isnt there.

I've had the same problem about 6 times mate its jusy bad wire. Only thing to do is buy another new roll from a different place

Or buy a decent make wire in the first place and stick with it.

cheers for the advice guys I think I might give ebay a miss this time I buy wire the sif gasless wire in the shop n this forum looks okay but its 0.8mm my old wire was 0.9mm would this be okay?guess I need to ditch the extension leed or could this make it easier on thin metal like car panles

I don't think your extension lead is your problem. Make sure your machine has the torch polarity set to negative if you can change it, and double check your earth connection to the work is sound. You'll be fine using the 0.8mm FCW and I expect you'll find it welds a whole lot nicer than the eBay stuff you've been getting.

i use the super 6 gasless wire and dont tend to have much problems with it other than the spitting it does when your welding but i do stay away from the cheaper brands

I'll second that, it's good stuff, very flattering to use, even makes my welds look presentable.

cheers for the advice ill try and get hold of some Lincoln wire or Siff wire and ill have tp post some pictures up when I do wish id had looked into wire more in the first place thought it would all be the same

Is super 6 meant to be decent stuff then? I bought some rods from my local hardware shop and they are super 6. I'm not a good enough welder to pass judgement on them.

im a newish welder to mig welding myself so posting some pics up of 2 welds other day unclean and then cleaned with wirebrush as was welding 1/2mm box section up

as goes for arc rods always used elga rods 2,5x350mm p45s as they used to spark up quickly to weld with them as i was taught with them

the wire is super 6 gasless 0.8 wire and the machine ebay bought that im using is a sip150 also correct on the polarity on the machine also can take a vid and upload it to prove usage as well if need be but id rather show before and after pics after welding material so it shows the gasless wire effect and after cleaning off with a wire brush than to state i use that with no proof if it is better to use

the settings upon the machine are shown in photo and the wire still connected to the machine and i can assure you the steel glows when welding and you have to be careful of not burning through and making holes at same time

Super 6 isnt a manufacturer its a rebadged brand. Maybe chinese. Probably whoever is the cheapest.
