new fault with the renault

have noticed it a few times lately.

every now and then it feels like its only running on 3 cylinders when idling...it still revs fine and drives fine and i managed to run a misfire test on my diagnostics earlier while it was doing it and it came back as no misfire.

it had new plugs (and i gaped them correctly) just before xmas and new coil packs just after.

im wondering if its the computer not setting the timing correctly as it usually happens after ive been driving at a constant speed for a while i.e. on the way home from work when im pretty much sat at 50 for about 6 miles, when i stop at the lights it will do it.

it clears itself after a while too.

any ideas?

On topic: is it actual diagnostics you have or a code reader? Id maybe be suspecting an injector but being French id also suspect anything electronic.

Off topic: Is there a reason you persist with this terrible car?

If its for monetary reasons then swapping for an old Japanese car might be a good idea. Corolla, almera, primera, civic, accord etc.

Cheap as chips and infinity less hassle than that French junk.

I'd even be willing to participate in a whip round to stop your suffering.

Seen as the engine ECU was swimming last week I wouldn't be too surprised if that is the fault.
You generally find that the injectors share a common power supply from the ecu from the same pin but they all have a separate earth to the ecu via 4 pins.
Bet one of the earth straps inside the ecu is ********.

It very well could be an injector but with the ecu seeing better days I'd point at that without any diagnostics.

In light of that above info I would absolutely suspect the ecu then.

I have a generic diagnostics, it has misfire test, code reader, live data and data logger too. It's not a high price one but has been spot on up til now.

I persist because, well, I genuinely don't know lol.

I figured it might be a computer issue, it's definitely still in all 4...I just took a cool pack off at random and it was much different

A gallon of juice and a box of matches is a well known cure for all ailments of the renault/french jallopy persuasion. You might end up on a push bike, a 50cc scooter, walking or taking the bus, but your sanity and mental health are increased many fold.

Why do you keep it going BB.
Surely throwing time and money into it has long passed the point of no return. I could understand if you were brassic and had to keep it going but your other threads suggest a good few grands worth of bike is on the cards.
Why not hold a grand back off the bike fund and buy yourself another motor then scrap or flog the megane. Just a thought.

i know, i know...i am actually thinking of buying a second hand bike rather than new now so i can replace the car as well...

its only recently that ive started to have disposable money again...the last year or so has been a bit rough so really couldnt afford to buy anything else then but now is different, i think its just habit to try and fix it now lol

What sort of flogging do you mean?
I know what I would've done by now......
BB coil packs are a common fault on Megan's.

Well if you get £1 for it you've officially flogged it. By scrapping it your flogging it really cos you'll get scrap value (£100 or so).

Scrap value is rock bottom at the moment. Cant even get £30 for my scrap 206 (note BB its french and its getting what it deserves!)

I can still get over £100 collected a scrap car up here. £140 last time I rang them a month or so ago.
