New EWM Phoneix 355

Good morning gents.
I have a new now about 1 month old EWM phoneix 355 prior to the new 'edrive' system. However have had NO support from the selling agent here in AU.
Would very much appreciate some setting and info to move forward

Yes Alan has arranged someone to contact me, probably that person is only finding out about this today. I also have 1.0mm solid core steel wire and was wondering of the setting for vertical up as a base line, using 2% O2 5% co2 and remainder Ar sheilding gas On 3mm, 6mm and 12mm plate.

Have you tried the basic settings already in the machines memory?

Hi Henry
for a starting point, if you select JOB 8 from the standard JOB list in the machine for 1.0mm mild steel wire (or job 7 if using 0.9mm). Ensure you have Pulsed arc activated on the front of the machine where you choose Pulks or standard MIG/MAG. Then in the Option "PROG" choose PROG 1, which is already set with vertical up parameters, as "Superpuls" function will be activated. You can then simply alter the main power knob up or down dependant on the material thickness. The Superpuls times and % of main current are pre-set for vertical up. This is the case in every JOB, where PROG 1 and 11 I believe are preset from the factory with this function. You can if you wish alter the times and % of main current once you are more familiar with the controls.

At this stage I have no manual for this machine as yet, although promised several times. On another question is there 'rootarc' and 'forcearc' jobs for .9mm.
If not can they be programed in, I am assuming they can

Good morning gents.
This morning I had a try of setting the machine as described. However does seem that the machine dose not have the ability to set the program number. I have tried this on job Nos 7,8 and 9. Set to pulse but unable to change the program number from '0'. I would assume that this is only available on the newer machines. Now are the older machines able to accept the newer software

Henry you can change the programme number in the machine you have for sure. Make sure you have the key switch inside the unit turned to the 1 position. the toggle switch inside should be to "Prog" On the right hand side of the display, pres the arrow button until PROG option is lit, then turn the right side knob until you see 1 in the right hand display. I have emailed the manual to you (should have said i could have done this ages ago !) Are you using a standard torch, or one with up/ down function or digital display? ForceArc and rootArc are only available as they are already in the machine for 1.0mm and 1.2mm as far as I am aware.

Just tried as described and not changing, however able to change using the PC2 torch supplied. Haven't tried to weld anything as yet, too many jobs lined up at the moment, but will try later this week and report back. Thanks again

That is why Henry, forgot you had the torch connected. The PC2 torch overrides the machine prog option when it is connected, therefore you change the programme number with the rocker switch on the torch. If you dosconnect the 19 pole cable from the machine, then the knob will change the prog number. Good luck

Good morning Alan.
Just this afternoon had a quick look at the manual (now printed and bound), however didn't see anything regarding Jobs and the relation to Program 1 being for vertical up. I tried job No. 178 which is not listed inside the cover of the machine (assuming it was 'forceArc .9mm) it did weld however with too much heat. Do you have the entire job number list. Is there a 'cheat sheet' available for this machine (quick reference guide) that would make life easier.

There is nothing in the manual regarding the Prog 1 being fro vertical up. These parameters are just pre-set in the JOB's, though they can be altered/ modified. There is no JOB for ForceArc with 0.9mm wire, so 178 is not set up for this process. There is a complete JOB list, but it would be a bit confusing, as there are JOB's in this list that are not included on the Phoenix machine (ColdArc/ColdArc Puls Pipe Solution, which are exclusive to the AlphaQ machine). There are some additional JOB's which could be added to your machine for 0.9mm wire, for using our RootArc process. You would need our PC 300 software package in order to install these JOB's to your machine. There are some parameter sheets that I may be able to forward for you, but the text is in German. I will see if i have them electronically and email to you. Hope this helps

That would be great. I have had contact from A gent from BOC on Monday, he promised to send me some 'stuff' on the machine but somehow has not responded yet. I have just sent him a reminder email and hope that, that get some responce. On another matter you applications engineer, is he available and / or when could I contact him.
You mentioned PC 300 software package, what is involved with that and yes .9mm in rootarc would be great. From my looking the machine has a 9 pin serial port and I am assuming the programming goes through that.

With this software installed on your laptop, you can install new JOB's which can be sent via email. The serial port is correct. if you can send a picture of the JOB List in your machine, I will be able to tell if any are missing which are actually included in the Phoenix machine, but not in the standard list. Hope this helps
