new earth lead?

need to fit a new earth lead and clamp to my clarke 150 turbo mig, clamp is weak and insulation coming off wiring, i got a new clamp and wire that i removed from some heavy duty jump leads.
removed the side cover and found i was unable to fit this cable due to how the old one it fitted, it is crimped onto a solid metal rod, there is a small sleeve going over to two parts and they are crimped down.
need a new crimp connector to be able to fit this but i have search ebay etc and am unable to source one?

any ideas?

how big is this bar?

google 'brass tunnel connector'. probably more suitable than a through crimp

the metal rod is 5mm, the old earth lead is 4mm, the new one is 7.5mm so has a much thicker cable. the new earch cable does have a eyelet on the end, could i buy an eyelet with a 5mm id end and head it up, fill with solider and push in on then hold the two parts together with a small bolt?

Why not get a panel mounted dinze terminal then put a plug on the end of the earth wire. That way you have a good electrical connection use as short a bit of the old wire as you can and leave the end that goes to the transformer alone as if that brakes off your in a whole n world of problems!

should this fit ok, they say for 10-25mm, my old cable is only 4mm, new is 7mm?

how does the old cable attach to the pannel connector?

There is normally a bolt on the back so you would what a crimp or two big penny washers and trap the cable between them.

I did the same on my MIT so I could use the big long heavy cable that's on the stick set.

It is measured in cross sectional area (normally). If the wire is a bit small you can bend over and shove in!

Ask the ebay shop if they can supply a crimp on lug to match the bolt on the back of the socket when you order.

brought the male and female plug, paid £2 somthing on postage each (if you contact first they will refund extra postage). asked for a crimp lug which they happyily agreed to send aswell as refund my postage

parts here today, fitted and tested. what a difference in weld quality, shows how important a really good earth contact is

Hope you don't do what my Clarke 90 did. The earth lead got replaced and all the magic smoke came out of the welder! but I was trying to well 4mm box at the time

Transformer! It was maybe going to happen anyway as have done it on a clarke 100 and it's not gone bang

probably a coincidence. a new lead wouldnt cause the welder to knack up
