I can show you my G reg 1275 metro if you like, the bulkhead and roof is still original. Racing on dirt pretty much screwed the rest of it.

Well if I had any pictures of it, I could show you pic's of my 1983 Mk1 MG Metro, which at 6 years old needed the inner wings replacing and half the floor.
By the way a G reg isn't a Mk1.......
It is if it’s a private registration.
The difference being? They moved the fuel filler....

The facelift front wings gave us a lot of grief getting them to fit the body consistantly.
Well, the body from the bulkhead back never changed, except when they moved the filler. My race metro was the metro, not a Rover 100. G reg, 89 or thereabouts...
When Rover brought out the 100 they made a new bulkhead with wider inner wings, longer outer wings and bonnet to go over the k series, and fitted a rounder tailgate. So mine I would call a metro, Mk1 and a bit. Rusty metal if you say so, but neither my original Y reg MG metro or the G reg one rusted from under the paint.
Enough thread hijack from me...

Staying off topic 
when they launched the 5 door they had to find a simple way to tell the robot spot welder line which weld pattern to use, the simple solution was 3 door models had a reflector held in the fuel filler neck by a magnet which was detected by a sensor on the end of an air cylinder affectionately known as the "Exocet launcher" 
if production forgot to fit the reflector things got messy as the robots attempted to weld a non-existent rear door aperture resulting in a trashed 3 door bodyshell.
