They certainly seemed to be. I think in hindsight it was more the jump from GCSE level. It's not so much that A levels are difficult or advanced, more that GCSE's were so simple, and in no way prepared us for A-Levels. It certainly was a bit of a shock, having to actually attend lessons in order to understand it.

Ref the regs exam, you need to have a "knack" imo to get through it with comfort. I jotted notes with "key" words from typical mock questions and the page number rather than the reg. You get a question about a cable under insulation for 200mm and bang, straight to my notes, "Insulation", p144 and from the table the derating factor is 0.63.
I did the 17th in 58 mins and got 98%. The 18th book has shed loads more in it and is printed on paper half the thickness. Its like it's made from Rizlas! The 18th I took an hour and a half and got 93.33%.
The jury's out for me on tabbing the book...how you do it is up to you but I went for identifying main sections and a few tabs with keywords.
Notes I made in the back of the book in rough alphabetical order, invaluable imo:

It's not hard though is it.......
I can't offer any technical electricery advice, but if once you are qualified you want to know how to get the work you want to do, without getting work you don't want to do, and whilst getting top money for doing it, I'd be more than happy to point you in the right direction.
It has to be not quite enough to be obvious and just enough to be annoying, it takes years to perfect it
Perfection comes when it looks all right until the tilers come in and there is no way you can adjust the front so it is level to the tiles

I thought it harder than the 17th in so much that the questions felt deliberately trickier. Plus I'm 10 years older than when I did the 17th. 3 day course for the 18th, 4 days on the 17th.

Does it make you feel old? I did my Chartered Institute exams in my 30's, and most of the rest of the class were doing them as a post grad course straight after their under graduate degrees. I was only about 10 years older than most of them, but I felt every day of it. I was running a business at the time, and all they were thinking about was.................actually, I have no idea what they were thinking about.
