Soon they plan to ban cars entirely. The tax will be renamed Pedestrian Excise Duty, and it goes up by weight!


I didnt see that! They have added a 400cc band knowing that most are 600's.

A 650 twin might make similar power to a IL4 400, but will now be paying more than double!

I shall have to get the 250 back on the road!

400cc tax band been about for long while - been looking/studying it.

Annoys me my 150mpg AFS110i (modern C90) is £25 a year tax and my fleet of loaner/courtesy 1000cc VW Up/Skoda Citigo cars at my car repair workshop are only £20. One of my 1.0ltr Citigo's is free road tax - zero band (and it has the same engine and emissions gear as the rest of them).

Whole VED thing is a poorly thought out mess...

My 5.7ltr Dodge is the same cost as my 1.6 Caterham. Both slightly less than my 2ltr turbo Lancia where you can watch the fuel gauge drop noticeably when you really use the turbo . . . all considerably less than the enormous fee for my 3.2 ltr Alfa - which if it was a year younger would be similar price to them.

But my Dutton kit car is free

It was rare when I bought it nearly 20 years ago - due to left leg problems. Ended up with round trip of 500+ miles to collect.
