Too far but thanks for the suggestion ! I'd be able to sort it if I had convenient use of that workshop but it's just too far away now. Pity as I said as I know the engine and box will do 300 K plus. It's the 3rd Xantia I've had and the best, the HDi engine is a gem !

i wouldn't touch any ford car again after the problems had with a few recently.
mondeo petrol engines injesting the plastic flaps in manifold and oil conrol rings failing repeatedly and injector pumps going on diesels ect ect ect
only ford i'd own again is a rwd transit ther engines and boxes seem better than the fwd ones and there cars, and there a bloody good van
i woul also avoid anything with a DPF like its got plague.

My old hdi 406 Pug used to to go into limp home with EML on due to air filter being dirty you could try some switch cleaner on the throttle pot connectors and maf senser used to change the filer every 6 months but was doing 35 thousand miles a year at the time don't know if that might help

i agree with cumbriasteve, i bought one a 2010 model for my early retiirement my 1st ever decent motor, and its superb, but my mrs keeps "hurting it" hence my doing body refinishing classes and getting advice off you guys

Lots of mixed revues here seems as with everything you either find people who love them or people who hate em. I have a ten year old 2.0 TDCI 130bhp estate with 156k on the clock, goes well, will cruise all day long at 70mph 
and gives reasonable mpg 45 ish. It does everything I ask of it and is quite comfortable, it's getting a little tired now with the odd fleck of rust beginning to show on the cills and door bottoms. In the four years I've owned it it's had two power steering pumps, DMF, water pump, both thermostats, auxillary drive belt kit and handbrake cable.
It's quiet in the cabin but from outside it sounds like a skeleton having a w**k in a biscuit tin, but apparently this is normal. My biggest fear is the injectors or pump failing (only found out the cost of replacing these once I'd bought it, ouch!) so regular doses of injector cleaner and fuel filter changes are applied in the vague hope of delaying the inevitable.
Would I have another ? not sure, It would depend on what's available and my finances at the time. I plan on keeping this till it fails beyond economic repair as my daughter has just got her provisional license and the Bank of dad will need to be thinking about getting her a small runabout and covering the insurance cost's, the sacrifices you make for Kids eh
