Nice job, whenever I'm working in the shop I'm often thinking to myself I should make a video of this little dodge or that particular fix. Never seem to find the time however.
Here's my first ever vid, no music or editing, just a bit of welding glass taped over an iPhone in a clamp but the quality is ok I thought.
I'd like to do more, this was a video to send to the German service guys at EWM to help them understand a fault I was having on a micro plasma/TIG setup.
As an aside, im planning on using a variable shade mask screen to take some shots of the solar eclipse on Friday 20th, I will probably just hang the mask over the camera, but I may find time to make something a bit better
You'd have an easier time buying a filter from a welding shop, about a pound each and a lot more straightforward to mount.
You'd want something pretty dark I'd imagine, but people have been looking at eclipses for years with welding filters so im sure there would be some info on the best shade to use but I suspec it will depend on conditions on the day.
I have the variable mask here, and as it will just be focused to infinity (300mm lens) then hanging it over should be fine, if F22 and 1/8000 isn't enough with the shade I have some ND filters but I'm pretty sure they won't be needed
I'm hardly an expert with these things but I have in the past taped a shade 11 glass directly to the front of my iphone which has filmed quite nice results. I've tried doing it from inside a auto mask and it's never been that great. In comparison.
You can't beat the clarity a filter gives. Auto dark are great but no matter how good they are they never seem to be quite so clear as plain old glass.
