I just opened an account for private use with the new system, I.e Hobby Welder, a Y sized bottle cost me as posted in the volkszone offer thread, it took three or so days to setup the account as its all by direct debit, this offer is highly confusing as none of this was discussed when I talked to BOC on the phone only a few weeks back, I.e the prices listed here for Argoshield Light size Y. How bizarre.

It's a common problem with BOC, Mr Fro; left hand doesn't know what it's own thumb is doing, let alone the right hand
Phone back (hopefully you'll get a different person) and ask for information on the "Volkzone" or "Hobbyweld" deals. Once you've got someone who understands them, then ask them about the deal described on this thread, too.
If you get any more info on the latest deal, do please post it here

I tried that and all I was offered was the Volkzone deal which works out significantly more expensive than the no-rent Hobbyweld offering. I spoke to the local agent who gave me the rep's number who has yet to call me back...
Before speaking to that agent, I spoke to someone who used to supply BOC - they said they had major reliability issues and suffered the old ****-elbow conundrum. I'm not finding that too hard to believe at this point.

I get my gas from J&R Gases. I have a 10 litre bottle , it is 7 inches diameter and approx 21 inches tall to the base of the valve. What size is this?
Trying to match up with BOC bottles is doing my head.
I pay a £50 fee for 5 years so basically £10 rental per year although I did not get an extra charge for my last Argoshield light or Argo5 what ever it is called, after having it the original for over 5 years.
Same deal seems to be there for pure Argon £25 plus VAT for a refill. same size 10L.
I have finished my second bottle of Argon in just over 6 months so do 20 litres, and advice on bottle size I should get, when I discover if X or Y or some other size I can compare to the BOC offer., the thing I can not compare is how much pressure is in the bottles because I do not know.

I'm not feeling like trying any of the maths right now, but you need to find out the pressure for the cylinder you currently have - just ask the supplier.

Thank you pdg you have answered one of my questions, so I can only assume that an X bottle (Smaller the the Y) is a 10 litre. I think I at least need to go to the Y size or 20 litres, which I am assuming is the volume of the Y bottle.
I do appreciate the pressure bit can make a lot of difference to the amount of gas in the container. P1V1=P2V2 or Boyle’s law.
I used to have an account with a BOC lace many years ago but the cost then was a lot of money which is why I moved away, just want to work oranges verses oranges before I buy another refill.

I have a feeling the J&R are around the 200 bar but will await an answer, I do not wish to go for big bottles as moving them becomes an issue, but a change to 20 Litre seems to be on the cards at least for pure argon at the moment until I get bored of practising.

Yep, around 40KG, which is around 7 stones. It's a manageable size, though - I can imagine that a full-height bottle at 40KG (I know they weigh more than this) would be a handful, but it's pretty easy for an able-bodied chap (or chapess!) to manhandle it into the car, back out and around the garage.
You want to get it strapped into the trolley pretty sharpish, though!
I agree with your agreement, and also would like to know whether it's genuine and, if so, how we get it.
The bigger bottles I was commenting on were bigger then Y size. If, and I say if, the fill pressure on my 10 litres are comparable and I have gone through two bottles in 6 months then I would be using equiv to a 40 litre per year, but if the pressures are 130-140 compared to the BOC I have a chance using the Y bottle, perhaps I am also using to much LPM or have had small leaks!
