New Android Phone

Up until now I've had one phone with both work and personal stuff on.

I've decided to get a new "personal phone" as in no work stuff on it. New number etc. Only contacts I want.

I set up Google on the new phone, I had to "verify", the new phone showed a number that I had to choose from 3 on the old phone.

I then installed WhatsApp on the new phone.

Somehow all my contacts from the old phone are on the new one. Nothing I've consciously done.

All I want is a new phone number, a new WhatsApp with contacts I choose.

Any ideas?

Sounds like you've linked your Google Account to your new phone?.

I think that's the default for WhatsApp.
When you verify on the new phone it automatically adds it (and all the contacts etc)

Go into WhatsApp (on either phone), settings/linked devices
Then uncheck the new phone

(Tbh I'd rather have no phone and spend my time between garage, garden & pub).

for a fresh phone with nothing on it it connect nothing up to it

no google unless its a brand new account i choose elsewhere for email
whatsapp i dont use so your comment of i just want a normal phone is untrue otherwise you wouldnt install whatsapp


you need to go into whatsapp the app settings itself for settings on the phone and unlink them

Are you using the same e-mail account on both phones?

...and the OP had saved their contacts to the email? And I think WhatsApp synchronise contacts saved in email, because I can deduce from my own case.

I have whats app on my phone but rarely use it. It is used by most blokes to share porn & political memes & other dodgy vids. I see no point in sharing such stuff as i would probably send it to my wifes sister by mistake or worse.
Occasionally it is useful as a few days ago when someone inadvertently showed me a whats app message not meant for my eyes. But it concerned me on a personal level. The author will be at a meeting im going to later in the week. Im quite looking forward to it!

On the original phone I've just gone into Contacts then Manage contacts / Sync contacts and turned off synching for WhatsApp & Gmail.

Going to reload both on the new phone and see what happens.

Really unhelpful as to what I'm trying to do.

I block any contacts who send items that offend me and believe me I have.

We use WhatsApp extensively as a family in various groups.

A few of us have a serious aversion to FB. Now there's something that should be wiped off the face of the earth. (Just my personal opinion).

Nope. It merely allows those type of people access an active audience. The software isn't to blame for the people.

I do, however, think their system/software is sh*te.

Nothing like that. Works, is articulate. Does live at home mind.
