Transfer on the fuel tank of a 1950s lawnmower says "ICI Granodine" rust protection. Seems to have worked as unlike other fuel tanks of that era, there's not a speck of internal rust! Google suggests that the product is still around but from other providers and for different purposes.

Its Phosphating which is a very good method of passivating steel to prevent rust. The problem is its not very pretty and it doesnt paint very well. You will get the same effect from a Phosphoric Acid dip........some of the "Copper Free" mig wire is phosphated to prevent rust....in fact a lot of mild steel wire is phosphated as it provides lubricity and a good base for drawing soap to adhere to the surface

Does there appear to be an actual coating on the internal steel? No blistering / peel?
More modern rust protection tends to be a fairly obvious coating.
