Nesting Box and bracket

Hi ,heres a piccy or two of a nest box and a very simple bracket to mount it [the mig weld bit] ,i have made several of these this year as Xmas pressies,no measurements and all made from offcuts or reclaimed wood,roof from oak worktop offcuts cheersbody from old lab worktop coopered from 8 bits,turned on homemade lathe, cheers for reading

nest box

Hi all thanks for kind replies,Chunko ,some pics of lathe attached,the headstock is from a 56lb cast iron weight,the tailstock was liberated from whaling station Grytvykken in South Georgian back in 82, the rest is standard box etc ,shaft 1 " silver steel threaded 1" 8tpi UNC,the tap is used to make sacrificial faceplates and mandrels, the 122 sanding disc has a wooden boss--lasted 25 +years,gthe method of building the nest box is a staved body from 8 pieces ,the roof stack laminated oak worktop off cuts, the body is glued up then mounted between centres on mandrels and turned to a cylinder with rebates at each end , the roof is also turned between centres recessed to fit rebated body ,base similar method,finials on a screw chuck HTH,the lathe is about 24" between centres ,I need 2x 8ft 4x2 pieces of channel or box to take it back out to original build size,any one in Medway got any to swap for a bird box?

I had also wondered about the story behind the lathe.
Was Rosinante one of the spearhead SBS group that took over the Falklands.

Not SBS nor even a hero just an old matelot foraging for bits,they used to build whale catchers and there were shipyards in Grytvykken,sHusqvik, Leith and Stromness,thats why the argies were ther salvaging scrap and machinery,on one beach there was a row of a dozen or more ships props, engineering foundrys,lathes 20+ft between centres etc,very interesting place, still have a bit of lignum vitae from there,it was used as bearings for the prop shafts, Shackelton is buried there,nearby is the grave of a young lad who was a bone sawman,he operated whopping great reciprocating steam powered saws to cut up the whale skeletons before it was converted into bone meal for fertiliser,them were the days,

How did Mr Shackleton end up buried in the Falklands.
A true hero in my book.
He got his boys back in one piece through almost unimagineable difficulties and bought the photos back as well on glass plates.
Why does Scott get all the antartic plaudits? this one does my head in. All his crew died.
Read Endurance by Albert Lansing, truly inspiring. An account of Shackletons expedition. The photos look as though they were taken last week, not by a bunch of guys beyond the end of their tether over 100 years ago.
Slightly off topic, apologies.
Back on topic. it is good to see quality work done on basic equipment, so much turning is average and unoriginal and done on fancy pants tools. Nice work.

Homemade lathe upgrade

"Aquired" a pair of galvanised " I " beam fence posts excess materials on a compound built at work cut down to 8ft set up with 12mm stud and nuts to make the rails parallel, it was then welded to the box section ends from the old lathe bed,I had to scrape the galv nibs off here and there but the tailstock slides fine.this gives 6ft between centres! headstock rotates for bigger diameters, it also can be positioned anywhere on the bed rails, next project on it is wooden naval cannon replica about 3 ft long for the patio!
