Need help please, naming and sizing an oil line connector

I want to buy some new fittings to be able to create some adapted oil lines and am struggling to work out a unique name and size for this connector so I can buy some that convert to hosetail

I think they are called BSP fittings but that brings up all sorts of fittings and am expecting the size to be 1/2 inch or 5/8 inch but not sure how to measure to work this out

the domed piece on the end measures 18.3mm or .72 inches across at its widest

the thread that the nut screws on to measures 20.9mm or 0.82 inches across the peaks. I only have metric thread gauges but it looks pretty spot on to 1.75 and a ruler gives me 16.66666 threads per inch

BSP is British Standard Pipe.

The number representing the size in the BSP scheme relates to the inside diameter of the pipe (so a 1/2" BSP fitting would suit a pipe with 1/2" inside diameter).

The external dimension of a threaded 1/2" BSP fitting will not be anywhere near 1/2".

Look up 'BSP thread chart' to get actual dimensions and thread pitches.

Do you have any plumbing fittings in the house? 15mm compression fittings use 1/2" BSP threads so you can use either the male or female part to see if it fits your oil line.

lol, first one didn't fit and the next two did, all 15mm so now I know the thread is 1/2 BSP, thank you

just need a name for the type with the dome on the end please

I'm guessing it's a cone fitting you're looking for, although brazed ends like that might not be to the typical 60deg cone fittings you find on hoses, however it'll most likely still seal.

Have a google for male/female cone fitting.

Probably easiest to look at hydraulic adapters rather than plumbing fittings

the dome bit is a sweated olive where I come from........
pre 60"s everybody used em around motorcycles.....lo melt brass was used or really fancy ones got silver solder..(Brough etc)..but not soft solder, as in plumbing, well at least on oil lines, sometimes on the petrol side of things.....depends on age and manufacturere.......
not sure u can buy em new, well sertainly not normal stock.....often found in new old stock tho....
BUT
a good place to look is the "VINTAGE motorcycle club" they manufacture all kinds of stuff like this.....they may even have a pipe made up.....
they have thier own web page and shop....amazing stuff they got or can get....prices r not to bad either.....
a lot of this stuff / pipes was a standard item used by many manufacturers to keep costs down.....
I do have a mate in Manchester who will certainly have some or he will machine up the odd one or two to ur spec.....
the nuts were often steel later on....early ones were brass......he'll almost certainly have or make them as well.....

I think this is probably the nearest I will get (same as @m_c ) suggested

The original pipes are made with a domed head but they mate into a flat slope in the oil cooler, I guess the dome gives it the best possible chance of sealing whereas if the flat slope version is a bit of a degree off it may not be quite as good

and it gets even worse apparently there are 2 different standards BS5200 and JIS8363 which are both 60 degree cones and have 1/2 bsp threads but only mate with themselves or it looks like a BS5200 female would seal on a JIS8363 male but not vice versa http://blog.parker.com/bspp-60-cone-fittings-looks-can-be-deceiving

Jis is different.... you want bsp unless it is Japanese

I've come across JIS fittings on random non-Japanese stuff.

There are also the other angles, just to give an additional challenge trying to find the right connector.
I have a Parker fitting identification booklet that I printed and laminated from a PDF, but I can't find the original PDF at the moment.
