Need advice

I am considering buying a multi tester for measuring the welding current. This multi tester is 17% Off. Just £9.95, a low price. Display: 2000 Counts, Could it work well enough? Or if I need other information? Thanks.

The digital multi-meters have a typical maximum current they can measure of 10 Amps, so they will not measure the current when welding. You can measure the Voltage, either open circuit or when welding if you have someone else check the meter when you weld.

The meters themselves are good to have as for checking batteries, for short circuits and a few other things so worth getting, but not for what you ask.

You would need a clamp meter that goes over one cable say the earth cable. Even then if you have a DC welder it would generally need to be an expensive unit as most of the cheep ones will only measure AC current as that on a mains tail in the consumer box for example. rectified DC has a different waveform and will not read current correctly.

may I ask what you are trying to do is it calibrate your meter or check it out for a fault?
