Need a welder

Hi and helo to all you hunky welders out there I am the latest newbie and I am looking for info on what size of Mig Welder to purchase for playing around with mild steel about 3 to 5 ml. My dad says either Sealy or Clarke but maybe you may know better

For 3 to 5mm and to prevent you constantly using your machine more or less flat out, the ideal would be around a 180 amp machine.

A Clarke 150 would do if it was occasional 5mm.

Depends on your budget and the amount of welding you plan to do.

ideally you would want to be looking at a portamig if your going to be doing a lot of 5mm

but if your on a thight budget.

If it really is 3 to 5 mm, I'd be inclined to go for stick myself. £300 should get you a nice inverter.

Whatever you decide on you also have to figure in consumables, gas and wire or rods. Also extras, clamps, gloves, an angle grinder or two plus bits and pieces for them. An auto darkening helmet makes life a lot easier.

Clarke MIG sets are mentioned a lot on here, Sealey, not so much.
