Need a welder for a transit

Welcome to the forum . Lots of experience/expertise here, and freely shared. If Carlsberg did forums, this'd be theirs.

As for your Transit you'll need to give much more info re work required, as I suspect folk will be unwilling to commit without pics etc. You'll doubtless be aware these jobs are often a lot worse than first glance would suggest.

Ive been at the point where i didnt like the price or cost of the welding that a vehicle needed

truly didnt see where they got the price from

that is until i did it myself

even i quote i wont get that welder out without a set price

so lets see the work needs to be reviewed and considered it maybe in worse condition than looking at

so i will have to price in that work and extra thats needed or maybe needed

then its all got to be cut out, rotten job really coated in metal dust and whatever crap is under it

thats before you start welding it

then its get the pieces cut ready shape where needed

all takes time

would you care to reword and post pics on what your after doing ?

cost over 1,000 last time i ground and cut out and welded one up

builders use them until they fall apart

though its the same in many trades just builders are heavy abuse users

Welcome @gazscull to the site we are friendly and helpful, but welding under Vehicles is a godforsaken task and always worse than it looks

I started trying to weld up my 20-yr-old LDV just over a year ago for MoT. As those above have said - it's not just the cost, but that not many people want to weld up old vans - because it is a pretty lousy job.
Prep, cleaning, grinding out, working in tight horrible spots with awkward access, positions and poor light etc.
Then it's clambering under and out as you try to fabricate bits of metal to fit in those awkward places.
The welding bit is a very small amount of the total time (but you still have to be able to weld well enough for the rest of the time invested not to be wasted).
You can see why welders aren't keen once you try it yourself.

One of our re-enactment transits has just had £475 worth of welding doing to it for the MOT. That was just one side. The other side will need to be done next year.

Thanks everyone for your posts ive done some myself but it's just taking to long as I'm not a experienced welder. it is both steps and outer and inner sills I could probably do the rest myself as the rest are just a few small holes. And I could underseal and paint myself as well.

you need to crack on with it double fast before the recent new welded parts have rotted again Owning a rusted transit is like having your life running X4 speed..cant keep up.

My 1999 Mk5 Smiley has just past its MOT,i've had it for 12yrs this coming march,every year i find something to stick together,then again,i also do it for a wageso quids in
In fact,all the MOT jobs on trannys i've done,never ever had a smiley to do,all seem to be Mk6,7,8's,few month backs i had to patch up a 2015 plate,
