First port of call would be remove the plug on the machine for the torch switch and see if it's five pin and the size it with the plug of the evil bay seller '
that transtig only seems to have one socket connector for switching/remote the pics not that clear if it's the symbol for remote . I've a much later transtig
( re branded stel ) but it has two amphenol sockets one for torch trigger 2pin and a 12or 14 pin for a pedal even though the pedal only uses 5 pins .
If any of that helps theres more wiseness on here than me .

If that plug on the end of the torch switch is a five pin you maybe good to go , That pedal been on fleabay for eons make a silly offer , I can send you the wiring diagram for my pedal if it's any use genuine esab pedal ( ssc made in the u s of a )
Parweld machines have Bluetooth and a app for changing settings,
Feronis have wireless pedals also.
Sometimes it is benificial to have a basic machine.

Barely all actual industrial welding machines communicate via bus and sometimes wireless. Multifunction torch controller are quite common now.
In case of these BOC machine it could be possible that these one needs a high wattage pot. Older german welder often equipped with huge pedals.
Remote sockets are often visually addressed by an diagonal arrow inside a square.

Bought "slightly used" by my pal's dad thirty years ago and it works for it's keep every week. I have repaired the water lines myself twice in the last couple of years so she is getting on a bit. He really could use a pedal on it though so I will take a pic of the plugs tomorrow and email the ebay seller asking if they know the value of the potentiometer?

An ordinary pot won’t actually work on that old BOC machine. You’ll need that big heavy old pedal in the picture. There’s a heavy duty wire wound rheostat as there is actually a fair bit of current flowing through the pedal circuit.
That kind of wattage will fizzle out an ordinary pot in about half a second.
Those pedals are pretty rare beasts now but if you find a working one you’ll be able to use it.

I think you are right I wasn't paying attention to the three smaller socket holes, jus the three big ones:

The the big pins/receptacles are for handling the relatively high current. The welding machine has a high wattage rheostat in the front panel to control amps.
The pedal when you switch to remote has to handle the same current.
If you have a look inside the set at the size of the panel mounted rheostat you’ll see why the pedal has to be so big to do the same job.
Two of the smaller pins will just be for a microswitch to turn the output on/off.

So how do you "switch to remote", is this a switch somewhere that tells the machine you are controlling Amps by the pedal? Or?

In answer to my question above: You just plug it in and it works. @scottmk1 above rooted about in his shed and produced the pedal referred to, it arrived Friday morning. I took it straight over to my Pal's and we plugged it in. It worked (literally) Out of the Box ad my Pal was really all made up, he was very impressed and I left him to a load of stainless forms he was welding up. So my thanks to Scott for his help, I will get a pic next week.
