I have had a Seally Mighty Mig gasless welder for two years. Its been ok, but its no substitute for a gas mig. The welds are dependent on the wire but its saved me a lot of money on car repairs over the past two years.
Anyhow the magic smoke started escaping yesterday after just over two years and < 6kgs of wire through it in that time.
My stick welding is always improving and I prefer it to mig welding. I suspect because the gassless welder gives "interesting" results. Also It only has high and low settings for power. The low settings being too harsh for car body work and the high settings being too cold for heavy duty fabrication. I found that it was just too inflexible to be anything other than a tool of last resort.
I have heard that while Co2 bottles give poorer welds they do last a long time and work out fairly cheap if you get a good size one.
Please could anyone recommend a welder that is going to last and what I need gas and bottle wise. I have a budget of around £400 all in though I can increase this if its going to mean I get a much better set up.
I have a local professional welding supply store, though as someone who lacks any experience outside of what I have learned though you tube and practice I always find my ignorance embarrassing.
