Need a new V-belt on a Myford Super 7

Can I have some recommendations for a new belt for my Myford Super 7..
My belt is years old and has been contaminated with oil over the years. IM not looking for a genuine Myford V-belt as I dont want to strip the top end down .So I am looking for a linked Belt and need info as what is a decent quite and smooth running one. ????

DON'T! I did the same - link belt (brammer) utter sh*te - too thick and can't get it tight. Will be replacing with proper one when I get round to changing the leadscrew

I've had a link belt on mine for last 10 years and its been fine, I'll have a look later and see if its got any markings on it as I can't remember what make it is or where it came from.

I'd agree Fenner is the best make of V belts, but no way are link belts better than a V belt... They are and always will be rougher running and noisier than a solid V-belt just by their very design.... fitted probably thousands of V drives on fans pumps etc over the years, and never see a smooth running link belt, only any use for getting you home, or finishing the trip, but I wouldn't fit one as a permanent solution, unless I wanted noise and vibration....

Fenner nutlink - oddly Amazon was the cheapest for 2 m length when I bought some last month for my denford

fenner must be lying then saying there quiet and don't vibrate il leave it at that. its not good having to strip down the headstock on the myford and best left untouched .ive changed a few

There was at one time a tool for measuring fee belts possibly made by Gates , you turned the belt inside out and fitted it onto the tool then pulled a sliding section down until the belt was tight then took a part number through a window . Most motor factors had one, made getting new belts easy

its not the problem getting belt size its stripping the headstock and countershaft down on the machine that's not practical

My Holbrook has 5 off 3/8 Brammer link belts to the spindle pulley, haven't noticed any excess noise from 'em - then again, I do listen to stupidly loud music and ride a bike a somewhat illegal speeds!

Tie the old belt out of the way fit Fenner if rubbish return not fit for use, slip old belt back & wait till it breaks

I use that one ^^^ for both belts on my Drummond, nice and quite and does not slip much when it is correctly tensioned and then only when I have done something stupid which is not a bad thing.

Just checked mine and its powertwist, the motor makes more noise than the belt does and given the choice there is no way I'd be stripping the headstock and layshaft down to fit another v belt.

The old one the previous owner put on mine (It wasn’t actually that old looking at it) was a black leather type thing with studs that you had to manipulate into slots. It creaked and groaned and had had tight spots - then once I got it to the right length I struggled to get the studs through again. After about 2 hours of fighting with it upside down lying with my head in the cabinet I caved and bought the fenner nut link one. It was expensive but a doddle to fit in comparison (10 mins), it’s quiet and the tension seems to be holding up just fine.

When I got the Drummond, one belt was a perished V belt the other was a leather studded belt (reminds me of the 80's), I can not remember which was on the spindle and which was on the motor, anyway as said above I replaced both at the same time.

My super 7 got link belt on it and it was fine, no issues at all
