Need a new HD MIG Setup

Hi guys,

Need some advice, old cebora MIG has been playing up for a while now, done some welds on some 10mm test strips, T fillet yesterday, put them in the vice few hits of a hammer, bam, cracked at the foot, very little penetration as I though even though machine maxed out.

Basically need a new MIG setup, ideally 230V or can be run on three phase frm 24kva generator which has the auto voltage regulator thing.

Budget, not sure, say £2000 including VAT, ready to weld.

I've been looking at Lincoln power MIG, miller MigMatic DX, Kempii (not them RA compact things used them before poorly made), but open to anything but it must be durable, reliable and possible to get replacement parts for.

Machine will be solely 1mm or occasionally 1.2mm wire, anything up to 16mm plate, UC45? for structural stuff. Mainly be foot/pad plates, steel frames etc.

Any advice welcomed.

Does it have to be separate wire feed? £2000 gets you quite a serious compact 3 phase mig, or access to some very nice used separate feeder kit.

Miller MIG Matic 300 DX are nice.
I reckon because you've got a decent budget you should have a look at one Jims EWM machines, would a Saturn 351 separate with one of the nice panels work for him @Jim Davey

Depends if he needs separate or compact, compacts are less money than separates.

Doesn't matter if its compact or separate.
Not BS EN1090, all the works I do are onsite fabrications/repairs for structural stuff therefore negating the need for EN1090. Was going to go EXC 2, But it was too expensive for the small amount of structural stuff I do and offers no return; therefore do it all onsite.
Anything made in the workshop isnt covered by En1090.

~300Amps should suffice. Never found myself going higher than 330 at any firms ive ever worked at.

Not my area of expertise really. More one for the regular users/dealers like welderpaul, Matt, and jim etc.

For site work I would be looking at an xmt power source with a rugged feeder like a 12vs or 12rc...

Do you have an engine drive already? Voltage sensing feeder might be an option if you do. Obviously a bit pants in short circuit transfer off a constant current power source, but they work well in spray, and some engine drives have a cv mode, ranger, trailblazer etc.

I have a ranger currently broken though, most places I work needing the MIG have electric anyway but still need something for the workshop so thought I would hit two birds with one stone.o

I got a ex demo MicorMig 300 compact gas-cooled Basic and a ex demo MicorMig 350 compact water cooled synergic I'm looking to shift before final stock take

Both would have 3 yr warranty.

Xmt304/350 and a 12vs then... Should have change from 2k for that second hand with a warranty. You can then use the 12vs on the ranger in cv mode when you get it fixed. That would be my personal setup choice.

Jim do you know of any engineers that fix rangers? Has auto idle problem that I believe is linked to a broken relay which I haven't got round to ordering from the states yet. If that don't fix it it has to get looked at. Over 3000 hours on it though.
