Nederman electrostatic filters

Hi,

I was given one of these

It seems a bit weak, I was expecting a vacuum cleaner style performance and it doesn't even pick up sawdust when you put it right next to it.

What is the purpose of the extraction? Is it just fumes? I thought it was dust as well but I doubt this would ever pick up metal dust.

Electrostatic filters are used to filter out the finest of dust, usually after the air has been filtered by conventional means.

Does your unit have a fabric filter? and if so is it blocked?

The air goes through the arm in to a u bend where there is a detachable bucket. Then goes through a series of filters that are wire and sheet, in to the snail motor and down to the outlet.

Can you take the filters out to see if the airflow increases?

If it's electrostatic there may be a few thousand volts in there so be careful.

It looks like a fume extractor to me, not designed to pick up solids - but should be quite high volume for fumes. Very useful for welding fume especially exotics - and expensive too. W/A

I see, thanks very much. I'm working in a fairly airless space so will keep using it then.
