I saw a 2CV body on a Range Rover chassis at an AWDC event, that was a bit different

Would it not be feasible to fit an XJ-6 type rear axle with articulated half-shafts? Fab a subframe for the diff etc.?

MGB body will fit a disco rangie chassis also been a ford KA body on a landy chassis but you are not allowed to shorten chassis now between the wheelbase

Many years ago I saw a complete Volvo 240 estate body dropped onto a Toyota Hilux chassis at Brixham being used as a tow car for a large boat. I don't know how much work it was to do, but it looked brilliant.

You can buy custom made halfshafts for a disco if your wallet is fat enough. I agree you can't respline them as the root of the spline is larger than the major diameter of the solid section between ends, this is done for good engineering reasons not to save material.

You could get the halfshafts cut and friction welded by these people. http://www.cpsdrivelink.co.uk/friction-welding/ would be cheaper than getting custom shafts made, friction welding was around £120 per shaft + VAT a year or so ago IIRC.

Or why not convert the LT230 to selectable 4WD? Its mighty easy, even without the kit. All you have to do is weld the rear output gear into the diff, remove the front one and machine up a spacer that also holds a bearing. I was actually playing with one for a friend yesterday. You could then run Series axles with no problems.
