No, not the toggle clamps silly, the strange looking "vice" which doesn't seem to have any jaws or fixings.

Came in a job lot (not got them yet). Anyone know where it is from and what part it must have played?

Clarkson make tool grinders. The two reliefs cut into the base look like they may accommodate grinding wheels.

There doesn't seem to be any way of locking it off though, normally a belt tensioner will have two nuts not a handle.

I'm guessing the "vice" has a fixed rear jaw. Perhaps adjustable but fixed...

Looks like a Picador adjustable motor mount to me.

The ones I've seen relied on a couple of grub screws bearing on the round slide bars to lock things in place.

Quite handy for machines with a stepped pulley drive straight off the motor as (a) they're quick to use and (b) there's not much chance of the drive getting misaligned when you slacken off/retighten.

It says "Vermont" on the front I think. I like the idea this medieval rack is a motor mounting, I can do something with that.

used to spend a fair amount of time shimming some motors to align normally bigger stuff,but that could easily be used on smaller mtrs.

Reminds me I had a devil of a job setting up my old linishing machine.

I may revisit that. Might be nice to have a pulley/variable speed belt.

It is indeed a Picador. Well done that man. It says Picador Fig 140 Velomont now I have it in my hands, Google has never heard of it. The clamps are nice too Bauer 450/2B.
