Naerock 6x4 bandsaw tension spring

I have bought this bandsaw and it works as it should



I have changed the belt as it was slipping, put on a fresh saw blade and changed the blade guide bearings as the previous ower had the adjuster arm pulled right out so it was resting on the body of the saw and were very worn. Fetled with it so i now get a straight cut.







Now all it is missing is the tension spring which will be the same as the clarke bandsaw. Does anyone know where i can get one? Simply speak to machine mart? Or i do have an old spring of my kids old trampoline will that work?

What sort of damper do you think would work? I was thinking about a motorcycle steering damper but not convinced it would hold the weight or last any amount of time before going caput.

Two problems you'll run into with a steering damper. You need to be able to lift the arm with very low damping resistance (a steering damper damps in both directions) and you need to be able to lock the damper to stop it completely. Otherwise it will be more trouble than its worth.

I'm going to assume @Richard. has a solution for that (he's a clever chappie...).

All the spring does is counterbalance the arm so that the correct weight is applied to the cut. The manual should tell you what weight it should be, any strong spring will do so long as it has sufficient lenght with an adjustable mounting.

Cheap Chinese motor cycle steering damper. Best mod on the saw.
It doesn’t hold the weight of the bow up completely on its own but it doesn’t have too. The saw has a 2 position prop for holding up the bow when loading and unloading.

The spring idea on the back is total s**** it doesn’t do anything hardly to slow that bow travel down.
A damper damps both ways yes but it’s adjustable. Mine has 13 points of adjustment from really tight to really loose. I tend to keep it in the middle and leave it because it lifts easy enough and has a slow enough rate of compression for cutting even the thinnest of box.
You can back the adjustment right off to lift the bow if you want and set it really tight for a very slow controlled cut. Nothing clever just using it as it works. Brilliant mod.

I don't know how effective the mechanism is on the 6x4, I sold mine when I managed to nab a 7x12.

One thing I do know is my saw needs both a spring to counterbalance the weight of the arm and a damper to control the speed of the cut.
