I think it unlikely as well but then again I have something in the back of my head saying that Myford changed the spindle nose size at some point in time.
I am maybe getting mixed up between the Drummond M type that Myford took over and the later "true" Myford lathes.

Then you've got the Southbend/Boxford. 1-1/2" 60° until late 1948 when the Boxford became 1-1/2" 55° That still causes confusion to some when their faceplate, or whatever, doesn't screw home

Just did a quick search and have seen most saying it is a whitworth threadform and then saying 55 degrees so....

I do have some Whit thread form dies, not sure about taps, that are very fine.

I can the weakness in this debate is me, my lack of engineering knowledge & network to sort this out. I've tried to mount this backplate from both sides. It engages for about 1mm or so & then solid. RDG didn't like that I took the backplate off. They would probably dislike I stripped the chuck to ensure it had been deburred & no chips. So new greasing done, with high melt grease. So I don't think they will take the chuck back. I like it just this backplate. I will try put engineered blue on the spindle threads to see what happens. Guys I really appreciate all the comments.

I have a question, Chronus sell a backplate to fit my lathe. Does anyone know if they would be using RDG product????

Chronos will be using Chinese made backplates similar to RDG although I have heard RDG actually sell Indian made stuff badged as Myford, not sure if there is any truth in that however.
I have dealt 2 or 3 times with Chronos and found them decent, they replaced a quick change holder I got for the wee CNC lathe I had, it didn't fit properly and they sent a new one out right away.
RDG I have dealt with once and it was not a great experience, that may just have been bad luck but I have decided not to test that theory out again.

I think if it were me I would try and find some engineering place locally that has a 1-1/8 UNF tap and run it through and see how it turns out.
The thread would be slacker due to the 60 degree angle but would that really matter seeing as it is the register that locates anyway?

It's a 2 hr drive but I canoe down there so no real issue. Just not aloud to do non essential trips currently with COVID 19. My thread is 1 1/8x12tpi.

You're welcome to call & check the new backplate on my lathe (once the restrictions are lifted). But I can't see that being any help as your lathe will have the same spindle nose thread as mine, all ML7's were the same. I think the problem is that the supplied backplate has either been incorrectly machined or they sent the wrong one.
As others have said, get shirty with RDG or get your credit card company involved, you were supplied incorrect or defective goods.

Hi guys thanks for the help. We'll I took on board the forum advice @ 2 levels. RDG Tools were no help. So I bought a 9" Myford faceplate in excellent condition. Fits great. So I phone Chronos had a chat & bought their ML7 backplate, fits 100%, just need to fit to my chuck. I then contacted Rdc & told then what I had done & that proved the problem was theirs & that I was returning the backplate for a refund. Guess what? Then they said that it may have been one that slipped through QA checks. Hello, they told me everyone was checked twice on 2 different machines. Bull. They are going to refund. So thanks to all.
