The thumbscrew and it being a fine thread make me think the main screw bit is for positioning rather than clamping, no clue what it is though.

Yeah didn't strike me as a clamp, looks technical maybe off something else

You might be onto something there there's slots through the vice that would allow a chain through and the channel below the clamp would hold it in the center. Always sharpened by hand my self.

The spring would be for pulling the chain back against it. The 'screwy' bit for setting the angle for filing and it is probably able to be set for filing the rake on the chain too. Looks well made so I'd call it a nice useful addition to the tool box!

MB is stamped on the unseen side of it. Can't work out how you would sharpen a chainsaw with it. My guess is it for setting teeth on the likes of a hand saw or circular saw

Band saw blade sharpener? There are two files in the photo that would fit in the alloy blocks and the guide bar goes through the threaded top section.

The chain is slackened off and left on the saw the housing is clammed on the cutting bar you firsat remove the 'anvil 'with the chain going through the clamp north south as it is pictured, then replace the 'anvil' under or along side the chain to hold the chain while filing , the tool at the back is the file holder the bar goes through the hole in the screwed bit, you set the depth and angle of the file, with the screwed bit then you set the chain north south position with the top screw (as pic) the bar slides through the hole keeping the file at the 'set position'

A bit like this but with a file instead of the rotary carbide
