Mystery tool???

I bought this tool the other day at a car boot sale and I would like to know it's proper function.

This was my Dads - he had it in his workshop. God knows how old it is. I doubt it was new when he got it - I know it was not new when he got it - he never bought anything new!

I think you're right, glass tubes and stir rods, here's modern one.

When I used to restore banjo and stick barometers, we used a triangle file to cut the mercury tubes and thermometer tubes.
The mercury never sent me mad.

Looks like a type of hacking knife to me - glaziers use it for chipping old putty, pins etc out of timber window frames in preparation for reglazing - the back of the 'blade' is flat for hammering on.

Interesting ........ a tubed glass breaking edged baton type tool device ? Score the glass around the tube /cylinder then tap it with the baton to get a clean circular break ready for melting a smooth edge on it?
