Are you on holiday there?
It's become very upmarket and gentrified since my youth, it's now full of boutiques, galleries and posh eateries whereas in my youth it was a cheap and cheerful seaside town with some decent pubs.
I know where you are, I picked up a nice Mitituyo 0-12mm micrometer in its case for £8, the missus had to drag me away otherwise I would have been ages in there. It's not cheap to eat out now! Plenty of galleries etc although there is a nice little antiques shop that has a few old tools in it. I picked up a new looking MT3 dead centre and two Presto metric taps for £8 yesterday.![]()
could be off the end of a pump pipe to stop things being sucked upMy boys found this on the beach at Lyme Regis today, anybody know what it is?
It's fairly thick copper.
My youngest says it's from a bang bang!

we used to stay in a Caravan in Beer, the Caravans are set on the side of the hill facing the sea, lovely views, the walk back up the hill after a few beers was tough though lolI know where you are, I picked up a nice Mitituyo 0-12mm micrometer in its case for £8, the missus had to drag me away otherwise I would have been ages in there.
My daughter is a Geology graduate so we would visit the fossil shops after working the cliffs at Charmouth.
Hiring a boat from Beer and chugging round the bay mackerel fishing is fun and Seatown (not Seaton) and Branscombe are a bit quieter and more picturesque.
I think it is the remains of the detonator from a big shell?
A rough guess ,it,s part of a timer for a mine, sea water enters through the holes and disolves a substance that holds the firing pin off, after a set time it goes bang.
dont laugh but gob stoppers as a "timing medium" comes to mind.![]()
Ive seen ordnance fuses with a similar design, but not up on them enough to be able to confirm or deny
