Remoulds on trailers are definitely not recommended. I think the cause of your failure was more likely to be the age of the tyre though. You probably don't need c rated on that little trailer, normal tyres will easily handle the weight you can carry in it.

Just out of interest, was it a retread? It's a very old tread pattern, actually an old Michelin style one from the 80's.

And I thought I was an anorak being able to quote Land Rover part numbers without reference to the catalogue

I was getting a lift into Wales once to marshal on a rally and I asked the driver if he did any rallying due to the speed we were going at, No he replied "I was a tyre tester for Michelin" and this was one of the routes he used!

Actually the tyre make is Tyron

The wheels I kept off the old caravan that committed suicide have some ancient good years on them, the logo is completely different and it's written G O O D Y E A R going half way round the tyre. IIRC the size is marked as 6.75 x 13

Tyron were a company who made remoulds, what they have done was used a copy of A Michelin pattern on a Goodyear carcase
Used to see Tyron remoulds years ago with apple sized bulges on the sidewalls,nobody in the garage would go near them.

Should have called the tyre a recap or retread not a full remould

It always used to puzzle me how many people would drive quite nice cars but have remoulds fitted on them .
The one's we used to sell that were actually quite good quality were 'Technic' branded, they were better looking and better finished than the others and needed less balance weights if I recall.

I had some remould/retread M+S tyres fitted to a Range Rover to sell it and the tyre fitter could not believe how many weights he had to fit to balance them, I was suprised they did not try to charge me for the amount of lead needed on 4 wheels!

I used to work for Michelin retreading lorry tyres, the state of some of the tyres when they came in were amazing!

The 750kg weight limit only applies to unbraked trailers as far as I'm aware.

it also applies to some drivers! those who took their test after a certain date

Just to bump an old thread, here's a quick snap of the light guards for Mich:

I think it was 1.5 or 2mm sheet steel, bent into a C shape, with M5 threaded rod at the front. It's held on through the existing rear light bolts

Not particually pretty but they do the job. Need to make something for the reverse lights at some point too
