It wasn't the 1.7 litre naturally aspirated isuzu diesel lump by any chance ?. My 3 year old Corsa with the same lump developed rust holes in the sump at the front of the engine, needing a welded repair. After 4 years the paint started peeling off the inside the sump blocking the coarse oil filter on the oil pump suction, losing all oil pressure in the process. Fortunately it blocked off a few miles from home & able to get it towed home. Luckily after cleaning the filter, no damage appeared to have been done. It ran onto 130,000 miles.I gas welded the sump on my daughter's first Corsa. It surprises me that something so covered in oil can still rot through.
