My small gas turbine project help :)

Iv spent most of my time in the past building rocket motors solid and hybrid, so fancied a wee change, looking to build a small jet engine from a turbo charger, can anyone offer any help with advice? Anyone on here built one before? All the plans I see for sale on the bay I don't imagine many ppl selling them will have actually built them,

Which type of turbo is best ?

I have plenty experience with gas turbines (big industrial ones) Sulzer type 1's TB 500's and tornados but they are a worold apart from the small stuff!

Any help would be much appreciate

Yeh seen a few builders online, was hopping someone on here had built one before, just need some pointers with the basic layout combustion chamber volumes, flame tube type, turbo spec etc

Iv seen a home brew pulse jet in the past how about one of those they don't look too complex

I'm looking for a turbo for my project, preferably a big one from a lorry or a bus, only stipulation is it can't have a waste gate flap on the rear? Will donate cash or beer tokens same thing I know

When I used to attend the Hobby Engineering sessions at Leek, Staffs., college there was a chap there who was developing a LPG powered gas turbine lawnmower engine. He had CAD designed the housing and vane before having a prototype vane cast in alloy. The housing was machined from something like 3" flat plate and eventually everything was put together. It worked fine although the alloy vane tips melted after a while but proved the concept so the designer could then move onto having it cast in a different material.
It looked similar to this rather than a modified turbo -

Awesome, other end of the country like, but when I posted it, I actually thought to myself, nik is always putting stuff up for sale, bet he's got a turbo kicking about,

bottom to top, smart 600cc turbo, Holset turbo off a tractor, Mercedes turbo, dunno what its off, then Merc Axor lorry turbo, then a schwitzer s300 off one of those big 360 excavator(bonkers but great on cars) cup nearly fits in mouth

Hey DrNik, gotta ask... How does one have a collection of turbos' just lying around, what sort of project did you have in mind when collecting them?
