Question i have whats the biggest rod out there you can get?

I remember crude oil tank base 1/4" plates being welded together with 1/4" arc rods like whats in the video, never seen any bigger.

When serving my time in the steel works (a long time ago ) Welders regularly used 3/8" welding rods About 2 feet long too, Handy because all the apprentices used them for making pokers for the fire, I still have one with a copper beaten guard, similar to a pirates cutlass handle.

when i worked at R.O.F Barnbow Tank factory at leeds cross gates
ended up as vickers later in life, they used to use 1/2 inch rods by the 1000s
when i was there the Challenger 1 Tank was just given over to the army, did have lots of pictures of the day but the ex binned them, only time cameras was allowed in factory

Any time i see the German ww2 tiger tanks on telly or film, the welded joints are very obvious, they must have used huge rods too.
It seems armour plate is welded with stainless or nickle chrome rods ?
